Did Humans Always Eat Meat?

May 29th, 2007 by Chris

Well, it doesn’t seem that way..

Humans evolved from animals that were vegetarian. Our digestive systems were not designed for eating and digesting meat. The human digestive tract is twelve times our body length and therefore, decaying, and putrefying foods remain in our system for a prolonged period of time creating toxins that can lead to diseases like cancer, not to mention simple indigestion, constipation, etc. The tiger’s digestive system is only 5 times their body length. It is designed to get food in and out quickly. An animal that eats veggies for a living has a long tract designed to squeeze every bit of nutrition out of the food it eats. Eating meat is a fairly recent development in human history. Humans probably began to eat meat because they could no longer find the natural foods they were used to eating within their habitat.

It is believed that we were similar to creatures that evolved from herbivorous ape like animals. They naturally foraged for food and ate roots, berries, fruits and nuts. They also lived moment to moment constantly foraging for food. Hunting requires thought and eating meat required fire. Until fire was discovered, man primarily ate fruits and vegetables. If man was a born meat eater, why did we have to wait for fire? T-Rex doesn’t roast his meal over an open fire. A vegetarian diet is the diet we were supposed to be living with.
