Save the Tiger

It’s easy to see why tigers are often considered the most handsome of earths creatures. More handsome, than even Mr. SoVeg himself, but just because they are beautiful, that does not make them accessories.

One tiger pelt fetches over ten thousand dollars on the black market. One pound of a tiger’s powdered humorous bone sells for $1700. It is easy to see why poor people would feel the need to hunt and sell their body parts. They see an opportunity, and they take it. That’s not to say poachers are all poor fathers trying to feed their families. There are plenty of rich people from the west that are there for a new swimming pool. This opportunity would not exist though, if there were no market for such items.

It is easy to blame the poacher, but without demand, poaching would not exist. Yes, I feel poachers need to be stopped, but so does the selling and ownership of this ‘merchandise’. This is a huge worldwide business. Besides the pelts, the tiger’s eyes, hair, internal organs, and even its penis are sold on the black market. The purchasers of these parts believe they perform medical miracles. They believe eating the tiger’s brain takes their pimples away, eating their whiskers prevents toothaches, and they even think consuming tiger penis will help them get IT up. There are plenty of little pills out there today that will do that for you, and you don’t even need to give a tiger HEAD! It’s all so pathetic to me.

Thanks to this illegal industry, and immense habitat loss, tigers are now classified as “critically endangered“. We are way too close to losing them. I send my 21 dollars a month to the World Wildlife Fund, and you should too. They are out fighting to put an end to this ridiculous and cruel industry.

Don’t stop there, help spread the word. It is true, just about everyone knows that tigers are in trouble, but it is the job of the caring, to make those that ignore, care as well. Blog about it like I am, post a bulletin on Myspace, talk to your friends about it. Do what you can.

Many argue that tigers get too much attention, and other species are at great risk as well, but they do not receive this kind of support. 90% of the worlds sharks are gone, bears are being kept in tiny cages and having their bile painfully extracted day after day, elephants are being killed daily for a pair of tusks. Yes, there are many other animals in danger thanks to the human race. That is why the WWF is so wonderful. They are fighting for those causes, and hundreds of others. It’s an “all-purpose” donation really.
