8 Facts About My Vegetarian Self

Yay! I found something to do. I have not been tagged, but i did read Veggie Chic’s post. She broke the rules, but I do not mind.
First, the rules:
* Post these rules before you give your facts.
* List 8 random facts about yourself.
* At the end of your post, choose (tag) 8 people and list their names, linking to them
* Leave a comment on their blog, letting them know they’ve been tagged
Now, what you’ve all been waiting for… my 8 random facts.
My girlfriend was a vegetarian long before myself, and many think she has influenced me. Well, that is 100% incorrect. I was sent THIS LINK by a friend, and it changed my life forever. That friend went vegetarian for a few days and decided to forget what he saw. I now cannot help but think when it comes to putting things into my mouth.
I have actually gained weight since becoming vegetarian. This could probably be blamed on how lazy I have been this past year, and not on my diet.
I have two pets that eat mice (besides my 5 cats). I have a snake named Daemeon, and a frog named Lily. On one of my other blogs you will find a video of Lily having a snack. Does this make me a bad vegetarian? I don’t think so. She would choke on a carrot.
I have only been a vegetarian for about one year and I already write about it. Some may think I am an idiot, but since making the switch I have done endless research, and I have become one of the most passionate vegetable lovers that I know.
I only miss one meat product, and that product is jerky. Seems like a nasty thing to miss, but I miss it so much I ordered some vegan jerky from PETA’s store, and even though it kinda tastes like hell, I eat it anyway.
I still love and eat honey. I feel that no one gets hurt at a bee farm. The bees choose to be there, and they could leave at any time. They are never kicked, shocked, crowded in, or slaughtered. Veganism disses all animal products, and that is why I am not a full-blown vegan.
I am as much an environmentalist as I am a vegetarian. Here is another one of my blogs: Earth Threat dot Org. There is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist.
Although many accuse me of looking like some kind of vegetarian hippy, I have never once tried smoking. Not cigarettes, and not marijuana. I’ve tried to be a healthy person my entire life. Eventually I realized hot dogs and hamburgers and not healthy either, and they had to go.
Well that was half enjoyable. I’m sorry I did not have any really nasty skeletons to pull out of my closet, but I am not big on secrets and I guess I do not really have any.
Since I am still quite new to veggie blogging, I am going to break the rules much like Veggie Chic did before me. I think Vegan Momma would enjoy this one though. I also invite anyone who reads this to participate, and link to your post by commenting here. Of course if you do not own a blog, start one, or post your entire ramble in a comment. I look forward to reading some others.

Yeah! Your comments are working. What a great list. I think I’ll do it from a vegan aspect.
I’ve read a lot about bees. I’ve always been fascinated with them since I was a child. I’m thinking of getting a hive for my place next spring. Queens usually live for 2-3 years and when they are old the bees usually let her leave without killing her. The old queen is replaced by a new queen.
Bee’s are fairly loyal to their hive so they usually won’t abandon it unless something major happens for example, something happens to the queen, then all heck can break loose but I don’t get worked up about the honey thing.
I saw a frog eat a bird on a documentary. :-O) My ferrets eat raw meat. They aren’t vegan so I’m not about to force them into doing something that is not good for them.
OT
You have some great sponsors. I love Mountain Rose Herbs and use them often.

Fun read! Thanks for playing along.
And there was an entry in the Vegetarian Carnival a while back that was a recipe for vegetarian jerky - have you tried making it yourself?

Hey, Chris:
I think i have been to your blog before, but you must have made a major makeover to it, it looks real tight, (as the kids say). lol. You visited me today, thanxs for dropping by, and do come again. I am digging the adding links to other veg bloggers, i am going to do that. I have not seen this before, neato idea, indeed. P.S. I wish you wouldn’t feed your snake a live mouse. ouch! Snakes kill with acid, i think. (double ouch)
P.S.S. also, i have not seen the (meet your meat) video, i have seen the link on PETA and in other blogs, i can only imagine the horror within it, and i’m sure if i see it, it will traumatize me for life. So i pass, but i know it is beyond terrible a reality.
Will be back, Missy.

Ha, your longing for jerky is funny. I wanted to bounce something off a vegetarian for awhile. In regard to
“I am as much an environmentalist as I am a vegetarian. Here is another one of my blogs: Earth Threat dot Org. There is no such thing as a meat-eating environmentalist.”
Well, how would respond to to people who eat meat but only as leftovers? A teacher of mine would never order or purchase meat, but if he went to a restaurant with friends and meat was left over, he would eat it, in light of the fact that it would be thrown out otherwise. This to me always made a lot of sense.

Well, I wouldn’t eat the leftovers. He does not support the meat industry, and I respect that. There is no such thing as a meat purchasing environmentalist? Better maybe?

Reading this made me smile. But you forgot to mention that you also have a cat that wants to be a vegetarian. His favorite treats are leaves and grass. I guess you need a longer list. Heart.
